The Icelandic legend of Jólakötturinn, warns of a giant Yule Cat who gobbles kids (and occasionally adults) who haven’t received new clothes on Christmas. This Yule Cat is described as an enormous, furry beast that appears at night while the household is sleeping. The Yule Cat legend is associated with Grýla, a monstrous troll witch whose thirteen sons are the infamous Yule Lads. Together with the Yule Cat, this frightening posse spends the holiday season feasting on naughty children and rewarding good children who have received new woolen clothing for Christmas.
