The 19th century was rampant with sightings of spectral carriages and phantom funerals. Many deceased locals were spotted riding across the english countryside and through the night in these macabre coaches. The carriages sometimes had fire-breathing or headless riders on horses, and many of the carriages were pulled by black dogs.

There have also been sightings throughout the English countryside of phantom funerals, which were considered a portent of death for the person unlucky enough to witness them.
