Goldenrod is a late-blooming flower that appears in August and is thought to be a magical herb. It is considered a sign of good fortune when it blooms near one’s home. In Colonial America, it was believed that a frost would occur in six weeks once a goldenrod bloom had been spotted.

The Latin word for Goldenrod is Solidago, which means “I consolidate wounds,’ an appropriate name for a plant with a myriad of medicinal uses such as a treatment for inflammation, arthritis, ulcers, and bee stings. The plant's stem was considered a divining rod that would lead to water sources and even golden treasure.
