In the Victorian Era, dahlias were used to convey secret messages. They could symbolize a warning, a premonition of betrayal, or a desire for a situation to change. Dahlias could also be a sign of eternal commitment and were appropriate as a gift for a couple.

October’s birth flower is colorful and represents inner strength. In Victorian times, a gift of dahlias was a popular way to signal love and beauty or to covertly warn of a betrayal. Today, they are often sent for graduations and those about to go on a journey and they are the traditional flower for celebrating ones 14th wedding anniversary.
