Bluebells, often called Granfer Griggles and fairy bells, are thought to be rung by fairies to summon meetings. Woods filled with bluebells are said to be enchanted, with fairies hiding beneath the flowers to lure people into their realm, never to return home again. In English folklore, picking bluebells is considered taboo as it would anger the fairy folk and bring bad luck, especially if the flowers are brought into a house.

When bluebells are heard ringing, it is said to be an omen of misfortune. These magical flowers are often used in love spells, and if a person wears a wreath of bluebells, they will only be able to speak the truth.

It is said that navigating a field of bluebells without crushing a single one will bring good luck.
