Ballybogs, also known as Peat Faeries, Mudbogs, and bogles, are said to be found in Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and England. These diminutive toad-like creatures are odd-looking with rotund bodies held up by spindly legs, but they are fierce, sharp-toothed guardians of the bogs, peatlands, and moors. Solitary by nature, they dwell in mud holes until they spot a potential victim of mischief they can lead astray. Many weary travelers have lost countless hours to these often nasty-tempered guardians, though in the end, no real harm was ever reported.
